Committee to Establish a
U.S. Comic Laureate
Proposal: Establishing a United States Comic Laureate
We propose the establishment of a U.S. Comic Laureate to serve as the official comic of the United States.
The Comic Laureate will promote and elevate the importance of humor as a vital part of American cultural heritage and global entertainment. They will serve as both a national ambassador for comedy and an international representative of America's contribution to worldwide humor through stand-up, film, television, and digital media.
Background
America's comedic arts are legendary, from stand-up, to sitcoms, to film. The U.S. Poet Laureate recognizes poetry's importance, and we feel the U.S. needs a similar recognition for comedy.
